Periodontics/Gum Disease

Periodontal disease, more commonly known as gum disease, affects a large percentage of people at some stage throughout their lives. It attacks the gum tissue and supportive bones and ligaments around your teeth. Periodontal means ‘around your teeth’ and periodontics is the term used to describe the dental treatments for gum disease. If the disease is left undetected the damage it causes can lead to tooth loss. In fact, it is the number one cause of tooth loss for adults and a contributor to other health conditions such as heart disease and stroke.

The best defence against periodontal disease is a thorough oral hygiene routine and regular dental check-ups. At Sailors Bay Dentistry we place a strong focus on preventive care and thorough oral hygiene routines. Please do not hesitate to contact our friendly team to organise a consultation if you have any concerns surrounding your gums. There are a range of treatments available to treat periodontal disease depending on the severity of the disease.
