Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)
More commonly known as root canal therapy, endodontic treatment is solely focused on relieving the extreme pain and discomfort caused by infection of the tissue inside your teeth. This tissue is known as the pulp and contains blood vessels and nerve tissues that nourish the tooth during its development. When this tissue containing the nerves becomes infected it leads to great levels of discomfort and pain and requires root canal therapy.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy involves the removal of the infected pulp from the tooth, disinfecting the root canal system and finally filling and sealing the cavity to prevent further infection. This treatment does not affect functionality or appearance if treated promptly and saves teeth that would otherwise require extraction.
Are Root Canal Treatments Painful?
It's a common misconception that root canal treatments cause a lot of pain during and after treatment. In reality, the pain is usually experienced prior to the treatment when the patients have irritated or inflamed nerves and severely decayed teeth. Thus, the procedure actually helps to ease and relieve patients from this pain while preventing further or permanent deterioration in the future.
At Sailors Bay Dentistry we have the most modern facilities and instrumentation to make the once tedious treatment of root canals an altogether less complicated and less painful experience.
Do I Need A Root Canal Treatment?
There are many causes of root canal problems, but the main cause involves deep tooth decay which can, in turn, lead to infections and cause you a lot of pain and discomfort.
Some signs of symptoms that may suggest that you need a root canal treatment include:
- Increased Tooth Sensitivity
- Darkened or Discoloured Teeth
- A Toothache during Eating
- Swelling of the Gum
- Abscess/Pimples on the Gum
