If you have misaligned or crooked teeth but are concerned with getting traditional braces, Invisalign may be for you.
Traditional braces require brackets to be bonded to your teeth and uses a system of wires to pull them into position. At each visit to the dentist, these wires are continually adjusted to ensure your teeth follow the correct path.
Not unlike this, Invisalign works off the same principle, that incremental changes over time will readjust your teeth to their correct position. Unlike braces though, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are custom made for your mouth. Each aligner is slightly altered and works to apply pressure to your teeth and guide them into position. Invisalign treatment is not painful and some people have described the treatment as mild discomfort when beginning with a new aligner. This discomfort or pressure is a sign that the Invisalign treatment is working and typically subsides within a few days.
The treatment time for Invisalign is also similar to traditional braces and can last between 9-18 months depending on the complexity of your case.
It is important to have your individual situation first assessed before deciding if Invisalign is right for you. Invisalign can be used by patients with overcrowded teeth, wide spacing, crossbites, overbites and underbites. More complex orthodontic work may not be suitable for the Invisalign appliance and it may be necessary to discuss other options with the dentist.
Invisalign is generally comparable to the cost of traditional braces. The costs for Invisalign can vary depending on your individual treatment needs, complexity of case and length of treatment. We will develop with you a personally tailored treatment plan to outline all costs from the start.
Invisalign benefits when compared to traditional orthodontic solutions in that they allow you to not only brush and floss easier, but also remove them during meals to enjoy your food. As there are no brackets or wires, food also cannot become stuck in the gaps and your teeth are much easier to clean.
Apart from the health benefits, Invisalign is also very discreet; most people won’t even notice you’re wearing them!
